This is the perfect career for someone who enjoys helping people, and does not want to become a physician.

Psychology is a field that is growing all the time. There are many mental illness that they can help to treat. A psychologist treats mental disorders by using psychotherapy. They do not have the authority to prescribe medication, but try to work with the patient by using counseling and behavioral therapy. The patient may still need to get medicine from a psychiatrist. The average salary for a psychologist is around $70,000.

In order to become a psychologist, you must have a PhD or be a doctor of psychology. This usually takes about 5 years of doctoral studies.
